2014 Upland Grenache - Snipes Mountain

2014 Upland Grenache - Snipes Mountainn

Our beloved Majestic is back and the 2014 vintage is tasting really, really good with the Mourvedre shinning through here. On the nose you get black pepper, black cherry, asphalt, and earth. On the palate it's spicy, with bright cherry notes, tea leaf, tobacco, and minerals. The acid is lively and the mouthfeel is smooth and quaffable. Your mouth is left watering for more. Pair this lovely GSM blend with pretty much anything.

Our goal with Kerloo wines is simple: to make true-to-varietal and vineyard-driven wines as long as the vintage speaks for it. This is no exception with our Grenache as Upland brings the thunder. A mixture of pump-overs (circulating the juice throughout the fermentation process) and punch-downs (mixing the skins with the juice) was done twice per day to help with extraction and texture. Often Grenache can get too overripe and high in alcohol and our goal is the opposite. We strive to bring balance, viscosity and beautiful aromatics to our age-worthy wines. Enjoy this absolute killer second vintage wine from the illustrious Upland!

This Grenache comes from the Upland Vineyard located in the Snipes Mountain AVA in beautiful Yakima Valley. This is an old site dating back to early 1900’s and is managed by one of the most talented growers around, Todd Newhouse. Extremely warm and rocky, this site is higher in elevation making it ideally suited for the ever-so-difficult Grenache varietal.

I always tell people that I love to hate Grenache, but I love her more than I hate her. It's very difficult to grow and often a pain in the cellar as well. As we continue to expand our Grenache program, Upland will, without a doubt, be the backbone of our juice.
